As the spring semester starts and we inch closer to the girls tennis season, I wanted to update everyone on where we stand and what I know so far. This probably goes without saying, but things are still fluid and are subject to change. I am basing some of this off of what happened during the boys season. I will continue to update everyone as more information becomes available.
-The season will start on Monday, April 26th. We will start our tryout process on that day.
-We are waiting to hear if there is a cap on the number of players that can be on the teams.
-The JV season will be four weeks and end no later than May 27th.
-The varsity season will extend another two weeks. Regionals will be completed by June 5th and the state tournament will be played on June 11th and 12th. I know that this goes well later than in the past, but if a player wants to be on the varsity team they must be available to play in regionals and state.
-Matches in the fall were on Wednesday’s and Saturday’s. This decision was made by the Centennial League. I will update when I receive the league schedule. In the meantime, please know there may be an expectation that all players will need to be available to play Saturday matches.
-In the fall, the first match was the Saturday after the season began. We may have a match as soon as May 1st. This means tryouts may look a lot different this year. We simply will not have the time to do a two-week singles ladder. Challenge matches will exist, but we will also be grouping girls to evaluate them, doing doubles rotations, and other ways to expedite the process. In the fall, we also had movement between teams to be sure we had the players placed correctly, the best doubles combos, etc. More on this later!
-We will be allowed to play 9 matches/events. This will be our 7 league matches plus 2 non-league matches or tournaments.
I know this is a lot of information, but I at least wanted to give everyone a heads up on what things may look like.
